Making Tough Choices
After two years of trying to sell our Des Moines Northwest home, Eric and I have (I think) finally made the decision to stay put. We love Des Moines, but with interest rates so low and the idea of moving closer to our kids’ private school in West Des Moines (a 25 minute one-way commute), we’ve been looking for any sign of hope that moving to a newer home might be what God wants us to do!
We tried to sell it ourselves. We rented a storage unit and paid to store things we apparently can live without for over a year. We hired a realtor. We showed the house dozens of times, cleaning constantly and living with the distraction. And now, we’re done for a while.
It’s funny… now that we’ve finally decided to keep our current home for a few more years, we’re starting to realize that there are so many more options than simply moving away could offer us. Like refinancing at that lower interest rate we’ve been eyeing for years… and shortening the loan period in the process! As we explore our options, I’m so grateful for the advertisers we’ve worked with at Pulse over the years. It’s good to know that I can find solid, honest, hard-working business partners as we work through our choices.
This morning, we met with Gary Bierma with Bierma Construction. A Pulse advertiser and personal friend who has been in the business for 20+ years, Gary talked us through all of our options on new siding and windows for our current home (I’m still lobbying for a bay window to replace my picture window!)… and maybe even that four-season room for the back of our house. We thought, “Hey, if we’re going to stay here another few years, why not spruce up the place a bit?!” After all, the first ten years of owning a home, complete with college loans, babies, and more, have kept us from doing just that. Now, we have options!
Gary was so helpful today, and I’m so excited to have a trustworthy business partner to guide us through a daunting process. Whatever you’re in need of, whether it’s a videographer, an insurance agent, handyman, realtor, etc., be sure to check the Good Living section of our website and click on AdPartners. I think you’ll find, as I have, that the advertisers associated with Pulse 101.7FM are worth meeting… and can make decision-making a much smoother and more confident process!
Why do you support Pulse Music?
Pulse 101.7FM board member, David Nadler, shares his story:
When I was a senior in high school, I listened to a band called Korn before my swimming meets to get myself pumped up (angry) before I swam.
It was very effective and my pre-swimming routine that year got me to the state meet. About 3 hours before I swam the last race, God spoke to me and told me that he had something different for me – that I was supposed to give up that band. Right then, not after I swam. It hit me hard to say the least. The thought of giving up my routine, right before what at the time seemed like a very important event, was super challenging. But I listened to Him and it really changed the course of one part of my life.
Which is awesome.
Korn was vile, and terrible for my spirit.
Now that I have kids, it’s important to Kate and I that we have music that speaks truth into our hearts. It’s just as important that we give them music that is relevant to their peers. As they’re moving into having friends that we don’t pick for them, I know that their choices will open up and that they may make decisions I don’t love (perhaps even listening to music like Korn : ). But it is important to me that we give them options that are solid, pure and move their spirits toward God and His kingdom.
Ok, long story, now here’s the point.
I’ve been involved with Pulse 101.7 since the early days, and over the last 17 years, this music has blessed my spirit day in and day out. I still listen to “other” music some of the time, but Pulse is my home base – for me and my family. For encouragement, for grounding, for blessing.
Kate and I have decided that this station is a part of the Kingdom work we see God doing in our city and in our family and we want to stay a part of it and see it grow. My hope is that my boys will return to it often as they struggle to become men and learn what it means to serve God.
Tomorrow, Pulse launches their spring fundraiser in hopes that a few hundred people will stand side by side and make a commitment to our city to support the station.
I’m inviting you to be a part of that team with Kate and I.
Would you please consider making a gift to the station today?
Pledges can range anywhere from $10 one-time to sponsoring a full day of programming @ $840 – or you can choose to be a monthly partner at $30 a month. I’d sincerely appreciate it if you will talk it over with your family and see what God is asking of you!
You can make a pledge online by clicking the link below, or you can call it in to 515-987-9995.
Thanks for considering this significant ministry to our city.
Sincerely,
David Nadler
