Well, it’s officially cold. The super-cold weather means it’s bound to become increasingly more difficult to find indoor fun for the little ones in your life! If you’re ready for some new ideas – outside of the mall play places 😉 – there are a number of inexpensive options for indoor play in Central Iowa. Here are some of my favorites:
Open Play Time at Backyard Adventures!
This is a great option for those “littles” that really need to expel some energy! It’s just $5 for age 2+ to enjoy playtime on the Backyard Adventure playset models; Monday – Friday, 10AM – 5PM. Plus, they provide a break room with amenities so that you can bring and store your own snacks or lunch… and they also provide the bottled water and utensils! Punch cards are provided and after your eighth paid admission, the 9th one’s FREE!
Activity Classes for Kids at the Valley Community Center!
From art class to Zumba, the Valley Community Center offers some great, inexpensive options for your young ones! Classes are normally $5 each but punch cards can be purchased for 5 & 10 classes, making them just $3 each.
Want to avoid a scheduled time? The indoor Play Area is a glass-enclosed toddler gym located just off of the cafe… a great place for play – plus, the cafe offers great snacks and coffee 😉 !
Science Center of Iowa’s Geometry Playground
There are plenty of hands-on exhibits that are ultra-fun for tots at our Science Center. The Geometry Playground is a temporary exhibit (available through May 2016) that offers climb on structures, inspired by geometric principles. NOTE: The Gyroid requires that the child be 47″ tall.
Don’t discount your local Chick-fil-A with providing some great fun when the weather’s not! Chick-fil-A Paradise Pointe not only has a Toddler Area for climbing around, they also offer frequent fun events for parents and their children! Follow them on Facebook here to keep up on what’s up. The latest? Stuffed Animal Sleepover: a sleepover for “your kid’s furriest friends”. Stop in Friday, January 29th for a family dinner and craft time with the cow, leave your stuffed animal, then come back Saturday morning to pick up your animal and see photos of all of the fun they had!
